Statisticians at the Department of Justice have the unique challenge of showing Canada wide crime related statistics while still emphasizing the feeling that Canada is a small community of people. In other words personalize otherwise sterile and formal statistical data.
Using 3D terrain visualization software and GIS we attempted to show Canada as a community of 100 houses, each representing 1% of Canadians. Statistical data in GIS format was directly linked to each of the 100 house 3D objects allowing different types of data to be shown in this 3D environment. Each object could then have its' colour, size, orientation and style changed dynamically to represent single or multiple statistical values.
This slide demonstrates how Canada can be represented as a small community.
